Koh Samui is the largest of the archipelago of islands found in the gulf of Thailand. On a trip to Samui Island, exploring the many islands found around Samui is something interesting. One of the more famous islands found here is the Turtle Island, or Koh Tao as it is known.

Tao Island is now an Important part of Samui Island

Tao Island is found about 45 km north of Koh Samui Island. It was once a beaten path tourist destination but has now thrived to become the largest diving training center found in South East Asia.

This island is the smallest and the most remote of the islands found here. There is sufficient accommodation found here for all the tourists to the island. Tao Island is accessible by boat; if you take a ferry service the trip takes bout three hours. However if you use the latest speedboat service that leaves Bophut and Na Thon, the trip takes only two hours. Chumpon is the most important access point to Samui Island where it is possible to use both ferry service and speedboat.

Tao Island is great for diving and exploring

Tao Island is geographically similar to its bigger brothers, Samui and Phangan. This is an island that is worth visiting not only for diving in Tao island, but also for exploring with its many rocky headlands and gigantic boulders. Though the beaches here are few, they are worth visiting for its beauty.

All beaches on Tao island offer bungalow resorts for accommodation which range from remote and primitive bungalows to basic bungalows. Those seeking high quality establishments will be happy to learn that there are quite a few such establishments found here.

Take a day diving trip from Tao Island

There is a single boat pier in Tao island from which a few sandy and rocky tracks lead to the village found on its west coast. The main reason for Tao island gaining fame in this archipelago is the underwater realm found surrounding the island. Tao island if famous as a dive industry that has ideal conditions for learning diving, if you are a novice in the field.

The numerous diving shops found around Tao island have high standards with qualified diving instructors. There are also many day trips organized to marine rich sites around Tao island where the water is warm and pleasant while offering excellent visibility.
